We all know money is the global currency for success, but what attributes make the foundation of a successfully content man?
've heard the saying money can't buy you happiness; this is a saying I strongly disagree with. What I do agree with is that it can ruin your life if you don't know how to manage it.
How about all those lottery horror stories of people winning millions and blowing it in three years only to end up with less they had prior to winning?
If you're smart with your money and don't end up with a Lamborghini Aventador wrapped around a telephone pole in Vegas after a 12 hour stripper bender or better yet, throwing a porn star off a roof and breaking her ankle, chances are you're going to have a much more fulfilling life with about seven or so more zero's at the end of your bank balance and you have your shit together.
But don't make the foolish mistake of thinking money is fundamentally going to change, enhance or better your core personality and values. If you look throughout history, ask yourself, where did MJ get his confidence? How did Muhammad Ali tap into his defiance of authority and turn it into raw fighting power? What about Mandela's endless patience and persistence? Why is DiCaprio the new Brad Pitt? It's not money, it's strength of character; and you can't buy it.
If you can say yes to three or more from our 10 Signs You Are A Boss list, chances are you're on your way to being true BOSS material.
1. You're good at what you do and you enjoy doing it
People know when they're good at something because it seems effortless to them in the eyes of others. If your career isn't causing you to cringe when you hear the alarm go off in the morning and you find yourself frequently asking, 'I get paid to do this?'; chances are you're on the right track. If your job feels to be naturally easy to progress in and you're receiving praise, it's probably because you enjoy it.
2. You're a man of his word
The words 'I can do that for you' are easy to come by these days; it's the follow through that's the part most don't honor. You don't want to go through this life being known as a flake, so if you can't do it, won't make it, think you'll forget or fail, just be honest and tell the truth; you'll be a better man for it. If you can make a promise to someone and consistently follow through, you'll earn priceless respect.
3. You take good care of yourself
This one's pretty obvious but most get it wrong. This doesn't just mean keeping the beard neatly trimmed or staying fit by going to the gym every night and eating nothing but chicken. Taking good care of yourself mentally is just as important. This means getting enough sleep each night, eating well and having healthy social interaction. Simply put; if you don't feel good on the inside you're not going to project greatness on the outside.
4. If one of your friends needed help, you're likely to get the call
Ok, so getting a call at 3 in the morning from a friend asking for somewhere to crash when you have a lady over is stretching it but helping a friend drown their sorrows after the girl of their dreams cheated on them with some douche? You better be there.
5. You can tell a good story
Entertainment value is highly regarded by both sexes. Being able to tell a good story that will hold people's attention well before the punch line is a gift in itself. Personally, my storytelling ability comes into the 'golden zone' after about two standard drinks, just like Frank Sinatra.
6. You're still in good character after a few drinks
Speaking of drinking, you should be able to hold your own. There's going to be numerous times in your life where drinking is unavoidable and you will need drinking stamina to keep conversation alive. If you're one of those who tends to slur and ween into awkward conversation after three or so standard drinks, maybe consider extra curricula activities such as kite flying or rock skimming. Learn to drink and respect alcohol.
7. You'll open the door for a lady and other chivalrous etiquette's
This is an important part of any man's character. You shouldn't feel as if you need to open the door for a lady, pour her a glass of wine before you or other basic mannerisms every man should know, these should be systematically automatic for you. You already knew this right?
8. You have high aspirations of yourself in life
So you got a raise, you've got the house you love and your dream car parked in the garage but that's it? If you're settling and getting a little too comfortable too early ask yourself; what's missing? The great people throughout history have never settled for second best and keep finding new avenues to explore, perfect and constantly reinvent themselves.
9. You don't take life too seriously
The chances of you sitting here reading this article are about one in 400 trillion (4×1014). That is, don't take life too seriously. If you're 45 years of age and haven't gotten a chance to see the Pyramids yet try not to beat yourself up. Try not to compare yourself to others but be mindful of succeeding in your own personal accomplishments. The most successful people use the time they have to do what they want to do. Not what they think they need to do. Re-read this ten times.
10. You don't try too hard
People know when you're trying too hard. They know when you're making shit up and they know when you're new to something. You're better off admitting that you're new to something or haven't heard of what the conversation is about rather than playing along, you'll be caught out because your confidence won't be there (you'll know it if you start drinking quicker) so just be yourself.
Don't say we didn't help you.
