The pilot episode, known as “Winter is Coming” cost over $10 million to produce, skyrocketing the cost of the first season somewhere north of $70m. The series has gained mass following and brought in millions for HBO despite the lack of ads mixed throughout each episode. We’re told they make it all back in network deals, downloads and DVD sales.
