Six tons of cocaine were pulled from this 32 ft (10 meter) submarine. Seized off Mexico’s Pacific coast, this is one of many submarines travelling packed with a haul worth over $100 million.
U.S. and Colombian officials estimate over 90 cocaine subs travelled between the two countries in 2013. Not only are they concerned about narcotics travelling undetected, recent seizures have discovered weapons and bulk cash on board.
Despite their home made appearance, these narco-subs are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Some have been found fitted with modern electronics, navigation systems, anti-radar features and even water-cooled mufflers which make cocaine submarines harder to spot with infrared equipment.
6 ton haul was found just off the coast of Salina Cruz
