You wouldn’t believe it, file sharing is actually declining. In 2008, the practice of downloading pirated content accounted for 31% of all Internet traffic. This figure has reportedly dropped to 10%.
With the launch of (legal) media publishing services being functional and competitively priced, it’s no wonder we’re seeing a downward trend in illegal downloading. Although this figure doesn’t factor in illegal streaming sites, the drop is largely due to traditional publishing catching up with the times. The likes of Spotify, Pandora, Netflix and Hulu are attributed to converting illegal downloaders into paying subscribers.
