Last week was pretty loaded with major happenings like the U.S. Open and FIFA Confederations Cup. Things have somewhat calmed down for this week save for one event – Transformers: The Last Knight, which might be director Michael Bay’s last film in the franchise – is coming out this week.
Then again, Bay keeps saying in each Transformers film that it would be his last.
The Last Knight is a sequel to 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, which grossed over $1 billion despite being panned by critics. In Transformers: The Last Knight, a war has started between the Transformers and the Transformers Reaction Force, a paramilitary unit created to destroy the titular robots.
Transformers: The Last Knight trailer
The twist in The Last Knight is that Autobots leader Optimus Prime isn’t himself. In trailers (like the one below), you’ll see Optimus trying to kill Mark Wahlberg and Bumblebee.
The Last Knight also features Sir Anthony Hopkins, who players an astronomer named Edmond Burton. Burton reveals in the trailer that the Transformers “have been here forever, hidden in the shadows, to protect Earth from what was destined to arrive.” He was probably referring to the Creators from the last film.
The trailer also hints that the Transformers have played a role in history, and were present during major conflicts like World War 2.
Transformers: The Last Knight stars Mark Wahlberg, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Laura Haddock, and Stanley Tucci.
The film is scheduled for release in the U.S., Australia, and Canada on June 21, and will arrive in the U.K. on June 22.
