The BMW Art Car project first came along when French race car driver and auctioneer Hervé Poulain had the idea of inviting artists to paint onto the luxury car as a canvas way. What ensued was a stunning array of 17 cars created since 1975 from internationally renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, David Hockney and Jeff Koons to name a few. Some of the famous limited edition one off’s have been featured in high end advertisements for global luxury brands to show people that BMW is a strong supporter of the arts.
Between 2003 and 2005, 15 limited edition Art Cars were released in miniature die-cast scale.
